Mom's Shepherd's Pie Recipe

Mom's Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients:
Sauce:
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed/diced tomatoes
2 (8 ounce) small cans (or one 15 ounce can) tomato sauce
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup vinegar
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon smoke flavoring
½ teaspoon garlic powder or garlic salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper

Other ingredients:
2 cans green beans, drained
6 cups prepared Instant mashed potatoes
1 pound cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions:
1.    Brown ground beef in frying pan with chopped onion. And spices, tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar and vinegar.  Simmer.

2.    While sauce is simmering shred, 1 pound of cheddar cheese.  Make instant mashed potatoes.

Assemble in casserole dish:

Meat sauce mixture on bottom, top with two cans of green beans, mashed potatoes, and shredded cheddar cheese.  Bake in 300° oven for 30 minutes.
