“Permissiveness cannot sustain true liberty for long. . . . In Sodom they probably had absolute free speech, but nothing worth saying! On the other hand, an otherwise permissive society, which tolerates almost everything, usually will not tolerate speech that challenges its iniquity. Evil is always intolerantly preoccupied with its own perpetuation.”
-- Elder Neal A. Maxwell, That Ye May Believe (1992)I love this quote by Elder Maxwell. It is so true! Especially today. Society tolerates everything except that which challenges its iniquity. Heaven forbid you call evil evil or sin sin. No, if you do that society will rip your head off and tell you you are intolerant, judgmental and self-righteous.
I love the last line also. "Evil is always intolerantly preoccupied with its own perpetuation." This truth is becoming more apparent every day as our society becomes more and more tolerant of evil and less and less tolerant of truth and righteousness.
Prophetic words from a wise apostle.
That's my two cents.
Man, that's an outstanding quote! True!!
