My Pack -- Duke

Duke was such a cute little puppy.  He had quite the personality.  He liked to talk. Arr arr arr.  Duke liked to eat.  As evidenced by his large girth.  Even so, he liked going on walks and runs in the mountains.

Duke liked to bite Jason.  :-)  One day Jason got tired of Duke biting him every time he went through the kitchen to go downstairs to see Michael.  So Jason thought up the brilliant idea to get a clump of Duke's hair and put it in his pocket in hopes that the smell of his own hair would deter Duke from biting him.  It didn't work.  :-)

Another time Michael was teasing Duke swinging on the swing set outside saying, "Eeeeeeeeeee".  Duke had a gutful and jumped up and bit Michael on the can as he was swinging.

Then there was the time that Jason wanted to race Duke.  We brought the camcorder to film "Jason versus Duke" and went to Lakeridge junior high track with the dogs for the big race.  Obviously any dog can beat a human.  So, of course Duke beat Jason.  Even though Duke was a husky fella, he is still a dog.  Then, Michael raced Suzy but told her to stay by him.  So she did.  She could have easily beat Michael also.  I wish I could put the video on here.  Fun memories.

Despite Duke's disdain for Jason, he was a very loving, gentle, sweet boy.

Those awkward adolescent years.

Duke chewing on the kitchen chairs.  This was a favorite pastime of both Duke and Panda when they were puppies.

Guarding his territory.  192.

Those eyes.

Duke's favorite activity -- eating.  :-)

Duke looking stoic.

I love this picture.  Duke always looked like he was smiling.  He was a happy boy.  He liked to sit on the stairs.  But he was a bit too large to fit on one stair.  :-)

This picture doesn't really look like Duke.  Another awkward adolescent photo.

Looks like Duke's going after the football.

Duke, looking cool, with sunglasses around his neck.

Duke looks like a badger in this picture.  :-)

This is my favorite of Duke wearing the sunglasses.  Joe cool.

Dad and Duke 1991.

This is at 2208 after moving to Puyallup, Washington.  Duke in his senior years.

This is my favorite photo of Duke in his old age.  He was such a sweet boy.

Getting a haircut from Dad.  2208 Tacoma Rd..  2003. Duke was 12 years old here.

This was only months after I got out of the hospital after my accident.

Not long after these last few photos, Duke met his unfortunate demise.  Duke was killed by a train not far from 2208.  Dad found him on the train tracks.  :-(  He had wandered off most likely looking for Dad.  If I remember correctly, Dad had gone to California for a few days.

Dad and Duke are now reunited in the Spirit World.  What a sweet reunion that must've been.

RIP Duke.  Until we meet again.

That's my two cents.

  1. Duke was the sweetest dog. So many fun memories. I remember driving up and down the tracks and looking all over for Duke, as he had become both deaf and blind. I think I cried the hardest at Duke's death because of how tragic it was. No doubt he is romping the heavens with Dad and the rest of the pack.
