Mission Memories -- Seminole -- Sister Erickson: Part One

Sister Erickson was my last missionary companion.

Sister Erickson was from Las Vegas, Nevada.  She was the only companion I had who I didn't train.  That is after I was trained myself :-).  Sister Erickson was out only a few months shorter than me. although she was a few years older than I was :-).  There is one unique thing about Sister Erickson, that I don't want to put on this blog, but if you'd like to know, ask me in person :-)

a few things that I remember about Sister Erickson:

I asked her if she went to a lot of Las Vegas shows, since that is where she was from.  She said no because they were too expensive.  Kind of like growing up in Utah and never going to visit all the sites.

I remember going shopping at the mall with Sister Erickson and going into Lane Bryant for the first time in my life and waiting for her while she shopped. this was a time when I wished I could have left to go shop by myself :-) sometimes that being with your companion 24/7 rule was hard to keep.

And then I think it was in the same mall, and maybe even the same shopping trip that I went with Sister Erickson to a beauty salon and waited while she got her hair done.  Sister Erickson had really thick hair and I remember them using thinning scissors on her hair.  And I remember thinking that I wished I had a little more thickness to my hair.  Although, there's not much I would have changed about my hair -- I think it looked pretty good :-) even with the 1990s bangs!

okay, these pictures are a little bit out of order, but this is me standing by our new -- well it wasn't really new.  But, new to us -- mission car.  It beat what we had before :-) I loved driving our awesome Ford Escort wagons!

Sister Erickson, looking like she color-coordinated to match the new car :-)

these were our APs.  For those of you not familiar with mission, lingo, AP stands for assistant to the president.  That was the highest calling an Elder could have on the mission.  For some reason though, to me, the APs always seemed a bit plastic.  Maybe it was just me.

This picture was our APs, bringing us our new car -- and driving our old car back to the mission office.

Stone/Erickson proudly standing by our new Ford Escort wagon!

It matched my Scripture case cover.  :-)

a lovely picture of Sister Erickson while we were tracting.  Notice the clipboard :-)

this is probably a self-portrait.
Of course, I look stunning as usual :-)

another stunning portrait of me standing by palm trees :-)

this was a poster on our wall in our kitchen.  I'm not sure where it came from.  It may have been there when we moved in.  But I guess I thought it was funny, so I took a picture of it.

We did see a lot of roadkill in certain areas.  Remember the armadillos?

I don't really remember this very well, but I think we got special permission from the mission president to have a P-day with the Elders in our zone.

I think we were playing softball. Which is odd because I don't like softball/baseball.  But I'm sure I taught the Elders how the game is played, nonetheless :-)

Sister Erickson, and I with the Elders from the St. Petersburg zone of the lovely Florida Tampa Mission.

Check out who's holding the ball :-)

I look like a running back with the ball tucked under my arm. I'm even holding the tip so I don't fumble :-)

I probably schooled the Elders on how to play football , too :-)

there are those crazy conversation bubbles again!

Looks like I'm waxing the roof of our car.  In actuality, I enjoyed washing and waxing our car every week.  I learned that from dad :-)

I called this my Snow White dress.  I don't know why except maybe because of the collar.  That dress was actually brighter than it appears.  In the picture it looks like a nice salmon color -- "I'm no expert, but I think they call it salmon."  :-) --but it was actually more of a brighter orange-red as I recall.

Hey, at least it's not the white dress!  :-)

Behind me is our district leader -- his name fails me :-( and in the middle is our zone leader -- whose name also fails me.  You would think I would remember his name because I had to call him every night for months to report our numbers.  And next to Sister Erickson was either the district leader or zone leader's companion.

St. Petersburg Zone

In front of the Seminole building after a zone meeting.

my bangs look extra tall in this picture.  Or is that just the shadow?

I remember when I wore this dress that you could see my farmer's tan.  :-)

Apparently the sleeves were little shorter than most of my other dresses. I had a pretty good farmer's tan from tracting in the hot Florida sun everyday.

another crazy conversation bubble.  I think we got caught in a rainstorm and I got drenched.  Which actually happened quite a bit.  I think I mentioned this before, but when it rained it poured.  And there was not usually much warning.  So by the time, we could get back to our car to get umbrellas, it was often too late and we were soaked.

I think my skirt is a couple inches too short.  I probably should not have worn that as a missionary.  I do remember the skirt being fitted with a zipper.  So I couldn't pull it down to make it longer like I could have with an elastic waistband. This is at the end of my mission, so I guess I was getting a little lax.:-(

I don't know what it was about that dress, but I always seemed to have problems with keeping my name tag straight.  Nevertheless, this is another stunning picture of me sitting on our mission car bumper.  :-)
obviously this is inside the church.  I don't think I was aware that my picture was being taken, otherwise I would not have been sitting in such an unladylike pose.  And I don't appear to be smiling.  Two clues that I wasn't aware that I was being photographed.  Because I always smile for the camera :-)

me posing with my favorite breakfast cereal!  I loved those crazy cocoa crunchies!  It was the storebrand/generic version of cocoa puffs.  But cocoa crunchies were much better than cocoa puffs! They were smaller and more chocolatey.  I ate those things every day.  I think it was Winn-Dixie, where we got them.  Too bad we don't have a Winn-Dixie around here!  If they even still make them.  Cocoa crunchies were delicious!  Yum.

the girl in the purple dress is one of our investigators that we taught and baptized. I can't remember her name, but the guy behind her was her boyfriend and I believe he was a member.

me with Sister Erickson and our investigator, that was baptized.  This picture was taken at the baptism.
Check out the guy's hair in the back :-)

check out Sister Erickson, with all those Elders :-)

obviously this was at some sort of zone meeting.

Sister Erickson might be in the midst of all the Elders but, they are all looking at me taking the picture :-)

Sister Erickson again with some Elders from the St. Petersburg zone

okay, obviously this picture is in the wrong place.  This is me with Sister Collett.  Looks like we're tracting this neighborhood. I have no idea who took the picture.  Maybe self timer :-)

this is a boy, that we taught and baptized.  I think he was about 10 or 11 years old.  As I recall, he was living with a member family.  I don't know if he was a foster kid or adopted or what.  It was something like that.
He is the youngest investigator that we taught and/or baptized.  I can't remember his name either :-( I'm terrible with names.  :-(

Speaking of which, any time we had a call back -- were going back to see someone that we talked to before --I would always have to ask my companions to remind me of who the people were that we were going to see. I've never been very good with names and faces.  But I can tell you the name of a plant that was given to me 22 years ago.  :-) but not the name of the people who gave it to me :-(  I'm still amazed that I remembered the name of that dieffenbachia :-)

another picture of the St. Petersburg zone at yet another zone meeting.

I know I already put this picture on here with the story, but this is actually where the picture belongs.  And I look so great in the photo that I couldn't bear to delete it :-) there is the plant that I just mentioned above :-)
