Mission Memories -- Seminole -- Sister Collett: Part Two

one of the perks of being a missionary is always having the key to the church.

This is actually the first time on a mission that I actually played basketball.

most of you know, that I was all stake in young women's basketball.  :-) I have the trophy to prove it :-)

So I was a pretty good basketball player back in my day.  Not really -- but I can pretend :-)

anyway, Sister Collett was a piano player.  And on P- day she liked to go to the church and practice piano.  So that was the perfect opportunity for me to brush up on my basketball skills :-)

yeah, it was kind of lonely playing basketball by myself. But on the bright side -- I can say I was the best player on the court :-)

me putting up a jump shot from just beyond the key :-)

I'm sure I sank it!  :-)

looks like Sister Collet's finger got in the way, but I think maybe I got the ball stuck on the rim.

taking a self portrait, trying to look like a bad can basketball star.  :-)

Sister Collett playing the piano.  Proof of purchase :-)

why is it so dark in there?

It's a good thing, there were no WNBA scouts there.  They might've tried to talk me out of finishing my mission :-)

Sister Collett waxing our awesome mission car.

my waxing our car.  My rebel shirt.  Must've been like Superman's cape.  My attitude seemed to change when I wore it.  By the look on my face :-)

Our apartment was on the ground level, about four or five units down on the left underneath where it says 8302.

my basketball skills aside, I look pretty good on the court don't I?

That's really all that matters :-).

Sister Collett looking cool :-)

more proof that Sister Collett actually practiced the piano at the church.
Sister Collett pushing the piano into the gym so that we will obey mission rules by being within sight and sound of each other.  :-)

I sure do seem to have a lot of pictures that are overexposed on parts of them.

I don't know where this is or what we are doing.

gotta love the hats turned backwards look :-)

check out that awesome form I have.  :-)

there is, that look again.

looks like I'm going for a layup.  I'm sure I made it :-)

Okay, I think that's all the basketball pictures.  It's a good thing that we weren't allowed to play basketball with the Elders.  I would have hated to crush their fragile egos with my mad basketball skills :-).

  1. I never had a key to the church as a missionary.
Yep, you would have crushed the Elders egos. I know. I did. One of the Elders in my district played on his high school team and was not happy when I beat him in H-O-R-S-E. He wanted to play again to prove it was a fluke and I beat him again. :) He was super ticked. It was funny.

I always associate that mission car with Sister Collett. It seems like you drove the Ford Escort wagon most of your mission. My missions had all the same car- Iowa was all Ford Escort wagons. Arizona was Toyota Corollas.

It's good you have P-Day memories on film. I wish I had taken pictures on P-Day (especially sitting in the hair salon with Sister Dutson).
